Some Spo-fans suggest I reprint some of my writings from the journals I mentioned last week.
Here is the journal entry date January 3rd, 1978. I was 15 years old.
“School is lousy. (I) Had a lot of homework, especially (from) Mr. Montle. [he taught geometry] Lifesaving class is awful since we have to do the breast and side stroke, both I can’t do. It is hell. “Soap” was fair and I’m watching Johnny Carson the lousiest comedian in the world. Tomorrow the librarians are striking but I think I won’t. They were wrong. I may regret it. Johnny Carson is awful. He sucks. Good night and good luck tomorrow.”

So…you didn’t care much for Johnny Carson, huh?

Thanks for posting that “blast from the past”!
You were a good writer even at 15. My writing at the time was more terse and painfully factual. I’ll have to dig through my old trunk to find my first journals!
It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the “post-holidaze” catch-up routine. One ornament at a time, back in the box!
Urspo - at least my handwriting was better then!

Were you a fan of Edward R. Murrow?

You know I’ve got all my old journals too, I should do this too. I remeber Soap, my mom wouldn’t let me watch it because it had a gay character on it. I have a cold doc, do you make house calls, i need my belly rubbed.

I LUV your old journal. If I had one, I would definitely talk about my 11th grade english home room teacher, Mr. Murphy.
I was new to this high school and didn’t have any friends so far.
He was explaining or describing the continents of the world to us at one lesson.
When he got to Asia, he pointed me out (in front of the whole class) and said they had moon faces like “Maggie”.
This followed me everywhere in my life, that is why I loved the 80’s so much!! The high hair which slimmed down my “round” face.
It took me to the 90’s when my daughter said, “mom, the eighties are over”, to actually change my hair style.
It was VERY hard!!!
Keep up the old journals Spo. We’ll all have something to say, about how serious we took other people’s opinion as children, even to adulthood. You as a psychiarist should really relate to this.
Hugs To A Saucy Man!!

Soap! One of the earlier shows with a sympathetic gay character. And it was totally demented, and who could object to that?
Huh. Has it been that long? How time flies.
Well, Johnny does look a lot better after you’ve seen Leno and Letterman…

Neat! I should look back at my old journals. I am just afraid they will be too painful.

That was brave to post that, but you were a good writer even then!

Yikes 15 years old?
You also have the Hemingway terseness…
I was ranting about my mother at that age and NOT as eloquently..lol
I remember Soap!!! It was hilarious!
