Greetings from Las Vegas !

A few months ago Someone and I promised to meet some friends in Las Vegas. They were coming into town to see some other friends and see a show. They invited us. So we are here; we are at the MGM which is Grand.
Lost Vegas is a cross between Soylent Green and Blade Runner. Good Lord I have never seen so many people – people crowding to get checked in, people wandering up and down the street (or at least trying to), and streets at a dead lock with traffic. C.S. Lewis wrote Hell is sometimes called the Kingdom of Noise – Las Vegas may be the first level.
Oh well. One needs to be a in a good frame of mind to enjoy all this zany stuff. I don’t gamble; but it is fun to watch people. Most of them are being rather foolish; watching them is much cheaper than seeing Bette Midler at hundreds or dollars a crack.
Tomorrow we go see the Liberace Musuem. We will go to downtown Lost Vegas, some place called Fremont St. Apparently the lights are worth the trip.

I am looking forward to Cirque de Soliel’s “O” at the Bellagio. I just hope there are no clowns. Once upon a time I was severely traumatized at a Cirque show. I was ‘post call’ and hadn’t any sleep. One of the clowns caught me yawning – suddenly the spot light was on me and the Bozo jumped me and made sure was I awake to be sure !
Someone asked what I wanted to see most of all and that would be Hooters. Yes, Hooters. I have never been in one; across the street they have an entire Casino. I can say I’ve been to Hooters – I want to get a T-shirt. Won’t that look classy at the Key West B & B next month !!

I love Cirque Show and I’ve never been to Vegas which hosts Mystere, O and Zumanity. I think Mystere would be considered outdated now, but the other two might be worth watching. Too bad they don’t let guys go to see the Chippendales.

I don’t care *how much* you have been working out with that trainer, I do not think you will fill out the Hooter’s T-shirt like some of their employees do.
I love Cirque! I am so sorry you were traumatized at a performance. I hope this visit goes well.

From a former Las Vegas resident: If you want to get off of the strip and get some good food, three choices that I may recommend. 1. Paymon’s, a Lebanese, Greek combo place with a separate hooka bar. They serve a mean gyro, and the kibbie (kind of meat loaf with pine nuts and hummus on the side)is worth the trip. It’s located on Maryland Parkway. The other great spot is Canyonita located in the Venetian. It’s a fusion South American fare. The steamed pork in Banana Leaves is heavenly.

I have had friends who said that I should go to Vegas. I am not a gambler either, but I was told that there was plenty of other things to do there. If nothing else, just to see the spectacle.

The first time I was in Vegas was when I was between my Junior and Senior Year in High School. (51 years ago) I took the train to Los Angeles and it went through Las Vegas. I got off the train and walked a block or so to see the lights of the Golden Nugget et al. I will never forget that sight.
I don’t really gamble either but I do spend a small amount of money on the slots. I set aside an amount to lose and when it is gone I quit. If I win a little I spend it. Once I won a jackpot (In Winnemuckka, NV) – I got the “hell out of there” and my mother suggested and later purchased an Indian made turquoise and silver watchband which I still have.

Enjoy yoursevles. That is a place I like to visit and the Cirque shows are top of my list. I’m sure there are many places to park and just people watch. Maybe you could find a nice male strip club to visit.

I grew up in Las Vegas (6-19 years old). In the days when the population was still around 200,000 and most of the valley was actually desert. That was a long time ago.

Interesting observations on “Lost” Vegas. That was cute. I hope no Bozo interrupts the Cirque show this year. Regarding your quip about Hooters, I am always reminded of the Hooters in Fort Lauderdale that overlooks the “gay” beach near Sebastian Drive. A weird location for a Hoot.

[...] Greetings From Lost Vegas This one doesn’t make much sense. “Las Vegas” I can see; Lost Vegas doesn’t even register as a search word. Perhaps it is the Hooters reference therein. [...]

I was born in “Lost Vegas” raised there and then came back a few years ago to do something important, bring culture to a town that has done its best to squeeze every last ounce of soul out of itself. Las Vegas is the most conservative city that I have every been in. It is basically a police state where police make a game of harrassing citizens. It destroys its history, not just the giant hotels that come tumbling down, but the smaller, more precious histories of private citizens. Most citizens came in from other places and many of these interlopers run a county government so fraught with regulation that you can do virtually nothing unless you are a millionaire. Don’t be fooled by the bright lights and the glitter. It’s all a sham. The moment you walk into a hotel you are watched until the moment you walk out. Fun fun fun. Yeah, right. Get out of line, laugh a little too loud and you’ll see the security guard roaming near you, just sort of “hanging out.” It is a ridiculous city that has “ruled” itself to death. Don’t let the name “sin city” fool you. No free sin is allowed here. You must pay for it through one of the sin “portals” called a hotel/casino. Try to express yourself in a creative, public way and you will discover a diseased city with absolutely no ability to conceive of your “renegade” individuality. Because I was born here I continue to try to remedy this, but the tiny minds of those in charge, especially politicians like Rory Reid (a known enemy and destroyer of culture in Las Vegas) will continue to make this one of the most, if not the most, un-livable cities in the nation, if not the entire world.
