This Christmas tree ornament is only a few years old, but it is one of my favorites.
I found it at Target.
For those of you who don’t know birds, only the male cardinal is bright red.
The female cardinal is brown.
Somebody in Korea put two male cardinals in the same nest.
They’ve made their nest with fabulous trimmings.
I had to grab one quick, before some right-wing fundy realized Target “was promoting the gay lifestyle” and they were yanked from the shelves.
hohoho indeed !

That’s great…they obviously had no clue when they were making it which makes it all the better.

My Mom looooves cardinals, and now I do, too, because I didn’t know that and they’re ALWAYS placing 2 or more cardinals together in decorations and knick knacks around here…I have to get me some, and they’ll make me think of you from now on, instead of my mom…definitely a step in the right direction, I’d say.

Male birds are always the better looking of the sexes thus they deserve to share a nice nest!

So were they actually yanked from the shelves? I’m glad you got yours while supplies lasted!

Gay cardinals. I love it. When we finally put up the tree I’ll try to post a picture of the coffee mug I found with Santa and two (male) elves very coyly taking a bath together.

I instantly recognized there were two male cardinals in the nest. That is so cool! I’m guessing they thought it wouldn’t sell as well if one of the birds was an ugly female. I also wonder if they did the same thing with other birds, like blue jays or gold finches. It time to make a trip to target to find out!

The cardinal is Ohio’s state bird, and even here we see greeting cards and decorations with two male cardinals.
There’s also a (disputed) belief that cardinals mate for life. The local Dignity chapter’s newletter was called The Cardinal because of that belief … not in deference to some prelate
Yep … definitely time for a trip to Target!

And I was led to belief that the Cardinal was Indiana’s State bird.
It is good you got two birds of a kind, and just like swans they mate for life.

Peter, the cardinal is the state bird for 7 states … it could well be Indiana’s as well. And I’ll bet you see lots of depictions of male-male cardinal couples too!

Ahaha! Too funny. And a precious little ornament indeed.
You should put it right in front of the tree so everyone can see, AND let everyone in on the story!

Target carries some great handblown ornaments that don’t cost a fortune. I found a really neat collection of fruits and vegetables that we’ve had for years. Not as cool as your birdbuds, but much better than the basic bulb.

Two beautiful birds, a fabulous nest – of course they’re gay! I love that ornament!
