I woke up this morning with a cold. I have the usual cold symptoms: stuffy nose, sniffles, body aches, sneezing, and personal guilt. The weekend looks to be a loss.
I probably got it at work from The Other Doctor (TOD). He was looking bad on Tuesday. He didn’t come in on Wednesday or Thursday. Out of guilt, he came in on Friday, but soon went home. He was there just long for me to catch his bug and to volunteer to ‘cover’. So I have a trunk load of charts which now includes his. Oh well. I am not going anywhere today.
When one gets sick one hears several types of cures, all guaranteed to help. I heard the staff tell TOD to take zinc, chicken soup, Airborne, Vitamin C, and echinacea. Even I gave him some thing- some rooibos tea, on the practical grounds it could do little harm. I am not a fan of ‘cold remedies’. They work via the placebo effect; the sufferer believes it will work, and they takes comfort thereof. This often helps, so I shan’t knock it. Alas, I don’t believe any of these things help, so they would not work for me. The only thing I can do is a combination of rest, fluids, complaining, and perhaps some aspirin for the aches. The rest is waiting.
I like to think colds are Nature’s way of telling us we are running around too much and not taking care of ourselves. She knocks us down with a virus to get us to finally sit still and get some rest. Sitting still is not one of my fortes, but I will do my best.
When sick, most men want someone to cosher them and attend their needs. All I want is to be left alone. Someone politely asks if he can do anything for me, I say no, and he goes back to watching TV.
I will have time to read blogs. It is an ill wind that blows nobody good.

I feel your pain. All I want is to be left alone when I am sick. Except I also want my husband to become a mind reader and quietly attend to all my needs. I guess it’s complicated. Feel better soon.

I just take over-the-counter cold meds to relieve the symptoms and carry on as best I can. That and eating really spicy Vietnamese Pho soup to loosen the snot-wagon that are my nasal passages. LOL

I’m sorry you are feeling “under the weather”. Thank you for confirming my long held, laymen’s belief that when one has a cold the best they can do is mask the symptoms and wait it out. I usually give a cold 10 days to clear. I hope you don’t have to wait that long!

Lucky you, you are not in Canada because this is Thanksgiving Weekend. Who would cook the glazed ham or the turkey and entertain the guests.
I hate it when sick colleagues come into work. The way our buildings are set up, mine is listing on the West side, with all the dirty air and pollutants, you know somebody is going to get whatever the other person has. Take good care of yourself and enjoy the fine weather in your necks of the woods.

Get well soon, Spo, sounds like you’re doing all the right things. Do you guys have ‘man colds’ in the states? We have it bad over here; where men get a little sniffle and swear it’s life threatening:
(I’m just like this. It’s pathetic).

Just pull the covers up over your head and emerge now and then for some chicken soup (no rubbish) and light tea (again, no rubbish).
Patiently awaiting your return in restored health.

I hope you get better soon, no matter which remedies you do or don’t take. I always knocked the colds out of me with the classic hot lemonade and whiskey. It’s probably more palatable in the colder winter months that I know are in short supply in the Land of Spo, but a good one of those and a good night’s deep sleep had always worked for me.

I hates colds! I suggest lazing around the house, complaining as much as possible, and getting drunk on hot toddies! Doesn’t do a whole hell of a lot of good for the cold, but will make you feel better mentally!
I hate to have anyone hover over me when I am sick. Just leave me the hell alone and let me whine in peace. Which is a good thing now that I am alone so much of the time. LOL!

Get to feeling more Spo-like soon!
I too am like you when I’m ill: I want no one around me and just want to be left alone. Which seems to make the Husbear think something is wrong with him.

Hope you feel better soon. I had mine a couple weeks back. Lasted about a week, had plenty of nasal congestion and upper respiratory action.
And of course I gave it to Keyron and he’s still sick from it going on two weeks now. He’s a lot more susceptible to lower respiratory than I am. He gets that frequently where I hardly ever get sick.
But then part of the price I pay for having this little super immune system is allergies to trees, grasses and weeds. So I’m drugged up from April to November for the symptoms. It’s gotten bad enough over time that not only do I need the fexofenadine (Aka Allegra) but a low 2.5mg dose of prednisone to knock the symptoms out completely.

Enjoy your cold then bid it farewell. I’m slowly catching up on my blog reading after being away for a bit. I see you have been busy, which confirms your theory of why mother nature passes colds around. Rest. Fluids. Kleenex.

I’m not sending you a cure, you know well enough what helps or not. Just get better and take some rest. TOD can do his charts himself when he gets back.
