Another Spo-fan request: show us your ornaments! I can’t deny this Spo-fan anything; what he asks I do….
Our christmas ornaments are a sundry of lovelies, precious and kitsch, plastic, wood, and glass; a hodgepodge of different types accumulated over the years. There is nothing ‘thematic’ about our ornaments .I try to get a new trinket whenever we travel. It is a work in progress without any long term vision.
If you live in Michigan then it is obligatory to have a Bronner’s bulb with your name on it.
I have several Pacific Northwest ornaments, made of cedar wood.
My christmas teapot.
There several bears of various sizes and shapes.
I have the entire Rudolf series; Yukon C. is my favorite (go figure)
Somebody didn’t do their research. Only male cardinals are red. This made in Korea ornament has two male birds making a nest together. Naturally it was a must-have-or-perish item.
Out of whimsy several years ago I got the Teletubbies. I think they are sort of stupid now, but every year they go up on the tree nevertheless
I have several glass ornaments in the shape of aloha-style shirts. Lovely!
Harper has a few of her own.
When all the ornaments are up, we hang the icicles and wrap the tree in ribbons.
Ta da!

You shall have three guesses, and if you lose, off goes your head. I saw that in an opera once.

What a lovely tree – and the ornaments … have to agree with M. Beaulieu on the hawaiian shirt and the Pacific North West ornaments. And each one of them means something to you and yours. And that is what a Christmas tree is all about.

Ray – there are a handful of ornaments neither one of us has any recall how they came about. They appear each year with the same mystery – where did we get this?

Your tree is beautiful. I stopped decorating for Christmas several years ago so I particularly enjoy yours. Merry Christmas.

The cardinals are, of course, the balls. Or, as the British say, the dog’s nuts. (I often wonder about the British).
Are you quite sure that those are the ornaments the gentlemen wanted you to show?

“a Bronner’s bulb with your name on it” – I have one and I’m NOT from MI!
bears, yukon cornelius, 2 male cardinals, hawaiian shirts, tinky-winky: don we now our gay apparel indeed! 😉
I am curious about the stuffed toys at the base of the columns – I see elmo, but I cannot figure out the rest. perhaps the subject of your next post, yes?
thanks for sharing your holiday with us, dear spo!

Beauty! Like many perhaps, we don’t do a tree. Instead we trim off low pine branches and hang boughs from the beams in the kitchen and then decorate them with birds; a perfect marriage of Christmas tradition and the Yule season.

Now, THAT’S a tree! And the effect is greatly enhanced by being set between those columns; with all the gold tone on the tree and those columns it looks like something out of a Russian place. (yes, this is a scenic designer talking) Well done!

Your tree is gorgeous. I love eclectic ornament collections and the stories and memories that go with them all. Thanks for sharing.
But is that what was REALLY meant by “show us your ornaments”?

What else could it have meant? Is there some sort of joke behind the word ornaments? The inquisitive Spo-fan speaks another language other than English; perhaps ‘show us your ornaments’ didn’t get quite properly translate.

Three guesses you mean in Turandot. I really have no idea but I am sure it is something precious. 1) gel, 2) money, 3) a toy.

My daughter is an adult now but was crazy about the teletubbie, tinky winky. Do you remember where you found it? Any way you would be willing to sell it? She’s 21 and recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and severe rheumatoid arthritis. I am wanting to get her some special things to remind her of happier times. This would be perfect. I’ve checked eBay, etsy, Mercari, and google search engine. Any suggestions? Thanks, Kellye

Thank you for stopping my blog.
To answer the first question – they were purchased at Bronner’s Christmas store. If you are not familiar with it, it is THE Christmas store in Michigan. They have a website. Perhaps they still sell them.
I am opening to selling it to you. He comes with the other three as a set. I will ask my partner if he is OK to do so. I don’t have great sentimental attachment to them, so I am sure we can come to some agreement. Urspo@yahoo.com
