The pharmaceutical representatives came today with Chick-fil-a for lunch.  I have never ate Chick-fil-a before.* I thought it tactless to bring I’d sooner eat rats in Tewksbury than patronize the place. Besides, I was hungry, and it was a free luncheon; I was also interested to know if the food was any good or was poor quality dismissed for the sake of rightwing politics.

The verdict:

The salad was a good. It consisted of mixed greens and not rubbishy iceberg lettuce. There were some fresh vegetables and an exquisite type of crouton, so I will commend them for their greens. I find it surprising whenever a fast-food franchise has anything good in the ‘good for you’ department.

ChickfilA-ChicknMinisThe entree consisted of tiny biscuits cut in half latitudinally in which was placed a small nugget of chicken. These ‘sliders’ were dry, bland, and tactless; it was white bread sandwich with a piece of dried meat. If this is what makes Chick-fil-a so famous than the Right not only has bad politics it has bad taste.
The fries were OK but they came in paper containers and these were placed in paper boxes; it seemed a lot of waste. The condiments consisted of jam, which for the love of me I don’t understand what to do with them. Grape jelly on chicken sliders sounds awful.

It is supposed to be meatless Monday but Someone had some beef and pork about to go off so he made a meatloaf. I have not had meatloaf since I was ten. Mother made them but I never liked them.** His meatloaf was tasty; he made it with a sauce made from tinned peach. He got the recipe from Edith Bunker’s cookbook.

imagesTinned peach brought back Midwest meal memories. Mother’s idea of haute cuisine desert was opening a tin of peaches. For contrast and flair, she would add a maraschino cherry to the three or four peach segments.  While I tend to abjure Midwest cooking (or the lack thereof) I remain fond of tinned peach and feel a bit guilty for enjoying it still. I consider tinned peach too gauche for company but dammit I suspect they relish tinned fruit too but no one wants to admit it.

Tuesday lunch is usually made from Monday dinner leftovers. I will have more of the meatloaf with tinned peach sauce. I am looking forward to this.

I asked The Wonder Receptionist at work to tell the next pharm rep to bring Indian or Chinese or anything my grandparents or parents would not recognize.

The leftover chicken sliders in the office fridge are up for grabs.




*Someone disagrees. He recalls we ate there once upon a time, many years ago, while on a road trip. Mercifully the experience has been wiped from my memory. For the sake of the story let’s not have facts get in the way shall we.

** I have a strong memory there was always a hard boiled egg in the middle of Mother’s meatloaf. I thought this was mandatory. Someone says he has never heard of this custom. I am curious to hear from Spo-fans if they put an egg in their meatloaf or am I suffering from false memory syndrome.
