I haven’t written an entry in a few days. A few days ago, the lower back went into one of its spasms. My left-side erector spinae muscle once again tightened itself to a fraction of its usual length and won’t relax for anything. It isn’t painful but when I try to do basic things like rise from a chair it lets me know its not happy. When this happens I walk like Grouch Marx and want to do little, including write. The Muses or someone like them senses this and they scram. Thus, no postings.
Today Someone has his first Sunday off in so long neither of us remember when it last happened. He is spending the day sleeping. I ought to do likewise as I cannot do much. Not that I’m not trying. Time and laundry stop for no man.* I am getting the usual weekend tasks done, albeit slowly and with many rests.
Speaking of medical matters, this evening I start a new medicine. I am highly allergic to sulfa antibiotics, and this one has a sulfur-base to it. The Good Doctor doesn’t know of any cross over, but it is possible. If I should develop a reaction, this may be my last entry for a while, if not forever. Now that I’ve frighten a great many of you, not to be worrying, it is as likely to happen as an Arizona politician admitting a mistake. A more likely side effect is having low blood pressure, which I hope happens, as it means I can lay off some of the meds I take for such. Better life through chemistry.
The Muses sure have taking their leave, for I had a half-dozen half-baked starter essays, which look to be going nowhere, so I deleted them. I hoped they would be risen like bread dough when in fact they were more like partial-ate items that were pushed to the back of the fridge only to be thrown out past their prime. Speaking of leftovers, I have a Costco chicken near picked over that I ought to turn into soup. By now I don’t follow a recipe but make it with whatever needs a food push. “Stone soup” I call it. More often than not they are tasty. Once in a while I make a very good one, but cannot recall exactly how it was made. I still hang on to the belief chicken soup is the panacea of all ills. At least it couldn’t hurt.
I hope my back muscle relaxes soon so I can walk erect and the Muses return for something more substantial to write. Tune in tomorrow – adverse reaction to meds willing.
*I recently read one ought to wash the bedsheets in warm if not hot water to eliminate any wee-beasties; cold water apparently doesn’t do the trick.

I don’t mean to laugh at your pain, but your phrase “walk[ing] like Groucho Marx” paints such a vivid image, LOL! On the laundry controversy, I am a firm believer that towels and sheets MUST be washed in hot water, colours in warm, and the ONLY things washed in cold water should be delicates which might run or shrink in warm/hot water. Otherwise, thinking that cold water gets anything clean is an abomination. I have spoken.

The latest ‘Pocket’ read on laundry agrees with you. Apparently cold water merely gives the mites as nice shower; warmer water kills the basards.

Jacuzzi somewhere that you can use …. it could make an enormous difference, quickly.

Yes I thought of this. We have a hot tub. Alas it is 100F outside, sitting in a hot tub in the heat is no fun. I may use the tub this evening. That will be nice.

You remind me of Voltaire, who when he was asked How Are You? He would reply you find me dying.

Someone is on alert to call 911 or someone like them if the new Rx goes to worst case scenario.

Maybe a nice soak in the warm pool? Hope the new drug works well. We miss hearing from you.

Bless you and thank you
The pool at the moment is not at all warm so a hot bath will serve better .

IT would be a shame to lose you, so your only option is to get better and not have any reactions. Feel better, We all care about you!

I do our sheets and all towels in hot water. I know they say cold water is fine but I don’t believe it.
I hope you’re feeling better soon and that the meds cause no bad reactions. I also believe chicken soup is a cure all. May this batch come up tasty.

As I write this my latest soup is simmering. It is made entirely of old things and leftovers and impromptu things. Let us hope it is tasty.

I’m sorry your back is out; hopefully it will get better soon. Fingers (and toes) crossed that you don’t have a reaction to the meds.
Yes, without a doubt, sheets (and all whites) get washed in hot water with a splash of bleach.

I didn’t know you could add bleach to colored sheets? Did I read this right?

No, not colored sheets! Mine are white – so they get a bit of bleach.

No, no, you can’t go a-dying on us. We would miss Harper and the scorpions too much. Really, i hope you feel better soon.

Yesterday Saturday just before Someone entered the shower, crawling on the bathroom floor as if guarding the path was a rather large one. As he was barefoot he couldn’t stomp it. Happily we are trained to look around at these times to find what would work to do the job. It was sufficiently stomped and Someone got his shower.

Oh my, I hope you are going to be feeling much better soon. You and your writings would be sorely missed, so keep the faith, Dear Spo. Do return to us whenever you are willing and able.

Not to be worrying. The back spasms I know linger a few days and are gone.
I have never known anyone to have an allergic reaction to my new medicine, a common one at that, so that’s unlikely.

I’m sorry to hear about your back. Back pain and spasms are NO JOKE. It’s no wonder you haven’t felt like writing or doing much! Do you have muscle relaxers to take for some relief?
I hope you feel better very soon!

Oh to have some tizandiane or something like it. I poked around the closet and normally there is something like Tiger Balm but alas Babylon there is nothing.

Sheets and towels washed in hot water is our house rule. Even clothing is washed in warm water to remove body odors. I use unscented laundry products, and believe me, if you wash is cold water with scented detergent or even worse, scented dryer sheets (oh the horrors), you are just covering up your stank. Newly designed washers just spray water over your clothes. They don’t really get a good soaking unless you choose “heavy soil”. Just reading back over this slightly neurotic reply makes me think I need to make an office appointment with you ASAP.

How sorry to have been unable to share a mutual day off☹.
Be well. I am an advocate of hot and cold therapy based on the type of back spasms I get (unlike you,I have no medical training whatsoever, so it is just a back spasm). One day of “treatment” and then just try to motor on through each day. This works for me. Your mileage may vary.

I wish I had a back spasm! My back pains are in the spine and all the conditions need surgery. I am glad your pain will go away. Hopefully, the medicine will not cause any adverse reaction.

““Stone soup” I call it. ”
My Jim had an aunt who would make soup out of whatever was going. She called it “wonder soup”–“It makes you wonder what’s in it.”

I’m very behind on blogs and am slowly catching up. I am sorry to hear you are/were in pain and I hope you are feeling better by now. Broken bodies suck!
I always wash my sheets and towels in hot water.
