As is the wont on Memorial Day weekend, Someone is working at the Comic-con convention.* I am home alone x 3 days, which is my wont. While he’s away my life is full up with hedonistic past times involving large amounts of alcohol, mind-altering drugs, and handsome people well over four feet to share them with – at least in theory. What is actually happening is I am channeling my inner-Agatha Morely and tackling the dust problem. There is no lack of it and it certainly doesn’t lack for variety. Yesterday I got out the ladder and got up into the ceilings to change the AC filters which in theory are done every two months. The gray fuzzy things I extracted had “October 14” written on them in magic marker. Oh the embarrassment. I wrote May 25 on the white clean new ones and set a reminder in the phone for two months. I found the black plastic extension tube for the hoover and reached under the bed, extracting what looks like a tribe of tribbles minus their charms.
The outside needs attendance as well. The Pool Man, who is a man of few works, texted the other day, so you know something is important. It said “water in hot tub needs changing. I can only imagine the morass. I don’t use it in the summer months, so I will drain the swamp and not refill it. The pool is nice so I go in it from time to time to refresh myself and remove dust and dog hair.
It hasn’t been all fun and fur-balls. I made my macaroni salad which I eat with relish at every meal. I’ve been to the gym a few times and I went on a couple of 2-3 mile walks. I’ve had naps and read some books. I am almost done with two of them, which is exciting to imagine what come next. “Summer reading” is in store, something light, not too difficult, and easy to get through – like my men.
Today I may just ‘do nothing’ which is nice concept, although most of the time when that happens I do not experience bliss so much as an awkward silence wondering whether or not I truly have free time or I have just forgotten something. 🙂
*Someone has told me several times it is not officially called Comic-con but I never remember what that is. It sounds like Comic-con viz. people show up in costume and generally make a nuisance of themselves in public areas.

I have an extra bottle of Rose, gifts from the Gite owner when we went back to retrieve something rather important that was left behind. Hop a plane to Nime, and I will be glad to share. enjoy your long weekend.

I’m watching the Indy 500, which starts in about an hour. McDreamy races at 1pm PST, and I’ll stream that as well.

You must be in seventh heaven on Memorial Day seeing such!

I have three different books called, The Beach or Summer House or something along the same lines. Pure summer reads of nothingness but fit. I might crack into one in repeat this weekend with pasta sala.

Summer reading should be fun and light, nothing to deep, something that goes with light table wine.

When you google it it says it is actually called Phoenix Fan Fusion. But you are right it sounds like the same things are happening as Comic Con.

That is it! Fan Fusion – sometimes mistakenly called Fan Fiction. Apparently it is quite a sight.

Sounds like you’ve been enjoying the weekend. I hope the next two days are just as pleasant. I made your macaroni salad last night and can’t wait to eat it for the next two or three days.

This year I put in some jalapeños (after all I live in the Southwest) making it ‘heat’ enough it would not be considered proper by my Midwest relations.

I did too. I wanted to put poblano but didn’t have any. The jalapeno’s hit the spot.

My go to salad, which I eat every day is potato salad. My own recipe which contains gobs of mayonnaise. Four squirts of old fashion mustard and hard boiled eggs. Some salt and vinegar. No onions, relish or celery. And more mayo, usually a half a jar. A literal swamp of mayo. All the recipes I seed call for half a cup or some minuscule repetition of mayo. Not me. Can never have enough mayo in potato salad. Delicious!!!

I haven’t had a good potato salad in ages – whether mayo based or vinegar based. Maybe in a German restaurant which is served hot.

I’m going to do some grocery shopping this afternoon. Maybe a load of laundry too if I can stand more excitement!

I am staying as far away from the “Mudbug Madness Festival” going on here this weekend as I can. Heat, Humidity, crowds and picked out crayfish shells in the hot sun with Zydeco music blaring? No thank you.

Well you make it sound good ho ho ho
I wonder if we have all become wuzzies from AC; I don’t like humidity anymore and shun even the smallest amount.

oh. Like a German hot potato salad too! Haven’t had one in over twenty-five years. That’s a salad without mayonnaise too! I use Russer Idaho baking potatoes in my salad but the German Hot Potato salad is with red potatoes with skin on. Yum!

The types of potatoes (at least the ones available) seem different enough for what is being made yes.

After all of your industry, I believe that you have earned the right to do nothing. Enjoy sone free time, and your macaroni salad, with relish! 😊

Thank you I have eaten a lot of it so far. Happily it never gets boring. I wonder if I can freeze some?

I had potato salad Saturday, Sunday. There is enough for three more days. So, I am enjoying it fully.
Who made the rule or suggestion that Summer Reading had to be light? I like what I like and do not change for the season. I have found most women want a romance. Booo! Not for me.
You are a bit behind on changing the filter. I laugh because Tommy delays the chore to save money! The company that put in the furnace explained that the furnace has to work harder, uses more electricity, and the air is not clean. So, he continues his quest to save a few dollars on a filter. Maybe making a note elsewhere will help you remember.

You are correct there is no ‘rule’ when and what should be read. After all reading isn’t like fruit in season. In my youth I had a ‘rule’ to read science fiction at a certain season – and now I can’t remember which season it was!
I was a little peeved to discover the AC filters were so old. They were caked in gray dust and dog hair. It is hard and dangerous work to get up there to change them. However I am determined to remember change them at the end of July.

I just finished reading Crazy for Corn by Betty Fussell, the onetime wife of the infamous Paul Fussell. It is a history/recipe book about the development of corn and corn recipes, with an emphasis on Mexico/the Southwest, so I am sure you would enjoy many of the recipes and also have access the the special corn ingredients and peppers, etc. that go into them.

Yes that sounds something I would enjoy reading; thank you for passing it along.

oh yes! I also become unsettled and fidgety when I find myself in a quiet space with nothing going on. Which is why I read. When I read I can’t hear the ‘you should be doing something productive’ voice!

I concur! Reading was greatly supported in my house when growing up. I learned if I was quietly reading I could be somewhat left alone to do so, unlike say watching TV which meant I was open to directions to do other things.

Presumably there has been at least a little hedonism with people well over four feet. You are blogging for us, after all. I would not be surprised if there was some alcohol involved too.
Good for you for labelling the filters with dates. Hopefully you have adopted similar practices for leftovers that go in the freezer.
I continue to feel you would enjoy Fan Fusion if you did attend.

yes I label the filters and things in the freezer.
Trouble with the filters is they are up in the ceiling where I can’t read the dates; I have it now on a post-it on the fridge saying when to change them. It’s old -fashioned but it works.

I made potato salad and macaroni salad for the Memorial Day weekend and we enjoyed them throughout the week. They are all gone now and I miss them.
I am trying a more balanced approach to spare time – pushing myself to be more adventurous and active when I have the energy, but allowing myself to rest and relax when i don’t, guilt free. I sped way too much time in between: not being productive when I want to be, but not relaxing when I need to be!
