a few Spo-fans inquired what I meant by the names of the four friends type. It was an obscure reference to the AA Milne Poem ‘Four Friends”.
It was meant to lighten up an entry rather lofty. So let’s now have some fun.
A bit of nonsense.
Here’s a MEME.
A Spo-MEME
How “Spoish” are you?
…… is jolly good fun ! (fill in the blank)
Tea, wine, or champagne?
How left handed are you?
The loudest item of clothing I have …………..
The Best Friend: who is s/he?
I’d rather eat rats in Tewkesbury than……
How many of these have you done?:
1. Been to an opera
2. Read a novel by Dickens
3. Drank Bourbon
4. Been to Key West
5. Visited The Stratford Festival of Canada
6. Spiders give you the heebie-jeebies.
7. Been to Michigan
8. Rolled down a grass hill.
9. Ate Synder Pretzels
10. Used the word ‘rubbish” in the past 30 days.
11. Worn a bow tie
12. Have a set of Viking horns
The Board of Directors Here at Spo-Reflections just might be persuaded to give out some sort of prize for the Spo-fan with the most or most clever responses.

Sand dunes should definitely count. I’ve rolled down grass hills and sand dunes. Both activities have unique charms, but the experiences are similar enough to be considered comparable. imho. (Sand gets into every crack and crevice but washes out easily. Grass stays mainly on the hill, but the stains on your clothes live long and prosper.)

I agree. I’ve done both and I think sand dunes are more fun.

Sex is jolly good fun ! (fill in the blank)
Tea, wine, or champagne? Just reverse the order for my order of preference. Champagne is one of the great joys of life, right up there with the above.
How left handed are you? I am not ambidextrous like my maternal grandfather, but I can do several things with my left hand. 🙂
The loudest item of clothing I have is a bright orange Tshirt with an image of John Singer Sargent’s famous portrait of arts patron and social rebel Isabella Stewart Gardner. We had them made up as opening night gifts to our cast and fellow members of the creative team for the first opera for which we wrote the text.
The Best Friend: who is s/he? Fritz: husband, lover, best friend, the love of my life.
I’d rather eat rats in Tewkesbury than have to listen to or look at Justin Bieber, any assorted Kardashians, Lindsay Lohan, Snooki or Britney Spears ever again.
1. Been to an opera? I saw my first one in person at age 11 and have saved every program for every opera or theater performance I have ever seen. The current stats: 947 Performances of 387 Operas by 169 Composers.
2. Read a novel by Dickens? Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, Christmas Carol and possibly one or two others.
3. Drank Bourbon? Yes but it will never be my favorite. I do use Wild Turkey Bourbon Liqueur in my peach pies.
4. Been to Key West? Yes, memorably with you, Someone, Doug, Leon aka The Wild One, and other delightful gentlemen.
5. Visited The Stratford Festival of Canada? Yes, twice. I saw the young Christopher Walken and William Shatner in romantic lead roles.
6. Spiders give you the heebie-jeebies? Some spiders. Here in New Hampshire we take Daddy Long Legs as a fact of life in the house. I have no idea how they do it but they get in everywhere, and you have to get used to it. But the other ones, particularly any that have hair, yes!
7. Been to Michigan? Yes. I drove through and stopped outside Detroit for lunch on one of my trips to #5.
8. Rolled down a grass hill? Many times.
9. Ate Synder Pretzels? Yes, most happily with a good mustard dip.
10. Used the word ‘rubbish” in the past 30 days? There are a couple of Spoisms that have become part of our vocabulary; that one gets used and then smiled about with some frequency. Tea time here is anywhere between 2:30 and 4pm not quite but almost daily. It’s made in a pot with loose leaves, no rubbish.
11. Worn a bow tie? Yes, especially in the much dressier days of my youth.
12. Have a set of Viking horns? As a kid, along with my Prince Valiant sword and shield. Somewhere I have a treasured picture of Fritz wearing a horned helmet reproduction at a historical site in Denmark several, several years ago.

OK, I have now done it and posted it on my blog. Thanks for the challenge. http://baileysbuddy.blogspot.com/2012/12/meme.html

OK, In response to your remark about the Viking helmet here is the research…”During the Viking age, helmets were typically fairly simple: a bowl with a prominent nose guard, as shown in the photo of a reproduction helmet to the right. One thing to note: Viking helmets had no horns. There is no evidence that Viking era helmets ever had horns.”
…
Good evidence exists for horned helmets in Scandinavia during the Bronze and early Iron Ages, well before the start of the Viking era. Stone carvings and sculpture (right) survive, showing these helmets, and bronze helmets found at Viksø in Denmark date from around the year 900 BCE (left), about 1500 years before the Viking age.
These ancient bronze helmets are thin and far too fragile for battle. Almost certainly, they were used only for ceremonial purposes. In contrast, surviving Viking-age iron helmets and helmet fragments are robust, and show clear signs of damage from weapons.
Perhaps during the Romantic 19th century Viking revival, this early evidence was misinterpreted, and the notion that Vikings all wore horned helmets became established.
So, I am afraid, Dear Spo that it is your helmut that is rubbish.
December 5, 2012 at 5:39 AM
Urspo
oh pish posh ! I KNOW THIS!!! My choice is to believe Vikings helmets have horns (the proper ones anyway) have horns. It’s the same as “Buddy” explaining he refuses to believe Liberace was gay. His reasoning?: “I just don’t want to.”

I love the word ‘bullocks” !! I say this several times a day, far more often than ‘rubbish’

Tea, wine, or champagne? – Champagne
How left handed are you? – Not really at all. However, I prefer to masturbate with my left hand as it gives me pleasure for a longer period of time.
The loudest item of clothing I have is a bright red union suit which I wear only for The Mister
The Best Friend: who is s/he? – The Mister
I’d rather eat rats in Tewkesbury than eat rats in Michigan
How many of these have you done?:
1. Been to an opera-no, but I own many operas on CD.
2. Read a novel by Dickens – not that I remember
3. Drank Bourbon – Yes, absolutely
4. Been to Key West – No
5. Visited The Stratford Festival of Canada – No
6. Spiders give you the heebie-jeebies – Yes, and I run screaming for The Mister to “get it!”
7. Been to Michigan – The Mister and I decided to move to Michigan in 2004 to be closer to his ancestral homeland of the Saginaw Chippewa Indians. He’s of the Algonquian heritage – a woodlands Indian if you will. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE. We left in 2012 after realizing that you can’t place two west coast liberals onto an isolated peninsula and expect anything but misery. Anyone want to buy a house in the woods? BTW-Don’t eat pasties south of the bridge ☺
8. Rolled down a grass hill – and right over several piles of dog poop.
9. Ate Synder Pretzels – yes, YUM! – I dip the hard ones in my bourbon – even the pretzels.
10. Used the word ‘rubbish” in the past 30 days – No
11. Worn a bow tie – At Age six in a family portrait and at age 17 for my high school prom.
12. Have a set of Viking horns – no, but I have several lithographs with Vikings wearing horns…does that count?

Yes, I mostly lurk around the interwebs these days.
