Greetings from Michigan Land of perpetual Snow and Ice. I am on Eastern Time which is three hours ahead of Normal Time but there is no sleeping in as the biological alarm clock goes off at 6AM and there is no snooze button:
Apparently Brother #2 on his rotation forgot to mind the chickens for when I went out this morning their feed pail was empty and there were eleven eggs. Hot puppies! Best Easter bracket ever! This morning I made three eggs over-easy and I ate them with relish. They were slightly overcooked it was a disappointment for I like my yolks bright, warm, and slightly runny- like my men.
Despite being away on holiday Brother #3 likes to check in via calls and texts. I am glad he does for I managed to ‘lock’ the microwave oven that it became inoperable. Father is easily vexed if his routine is even slightly off, resulting in him telling me to ‘Call Bill”. This is a annoying as I am a big boy and can do things myself. The exception is how to fix the microwave, which SIL #3 explained is fixed by pressing and holding the cancel button for three seconds. This worked and disaster was abated. Thank goodness.
Since I was last in Brother #3 did some construction on the house. The guest room now has its own loo, which is nice that I don’t have to go down the hall to the one used by the niblings. This involved putting on trousers lest Princess-Goddess or Posthumous Thomas see Uncle in his underwear in the middle of the night. Oh the embarrassment. Now I don’t have to anymore; the only ones seeing me sans pants (the means without) are the dogs, who decided I make a good bed companion.
Today is opening day for The Tigers so the afternoon’s entertainment is established. Still being on Normal Time I will probably take a nap. I’ve never enjoyed listening to ballgames on radio; I can’t focus on such. There’s work to be done anyway. Dogs want in and dogs want out several times a day. Every so often the two of them let out a howl of agitation apparently having spotted something in the yard so out they go running like the wind towards the intruder. I never see what they are after. Could be ghosts but I suspect squirrels. I never see them bring back anything.
I must pace myself as I have four days of this madcap living tending animals and aged parents. Wish I could send the Spo-fans some eggs; we have heaps.

Are you at your dad’s? Your family home where you grew up? Or at Brother #3’s? I don’t recall your dad moving.

Father is 87yo and lives with Brother #3 in Michigan. Every so often the rest of us come over to give B3 a break. B#2 was in for a few days; I am here for 5 days, while B3 is on a vacation.

My grandfather would follow every Tigers game, they make perfect napping background music. That was a pleasant flashback to 8 year old me. Julia child said the secret to a perfect french style poached egg, is bring the water to a boil, lower the egg in for 15 seconds (slightly longer if the eggs are cold,) then scoop out into cold water, lower the water to a mere simmer and break the eggs in poaching for 2 to 2.5 minutes. The quick boil starts to congele the white, making for a cleaner poached egg.

I’ve not had much luck with poached eggs but this may be lack of practice. I have heaps to practice with. I will give it a try.

If you have cable or something similar, my alma mater plays UConn in the NCAA Tournament at around 7:30ish tonight your local time there. It will hopefully be predinner entertainment for me since UConn usually beats everyone.

Sounds like an egg-dyeing contest is in order! Maybe some with paw prints? Don’t forget to root for your favorite Big Ten team playing today. Unfortunately, it’s not the Big Blue.

Dogs are more an early warning system, guardians fending off intruders, thus the noisy alarms. Cat are more the hunter gatherers in the pet animal world so you are safe from having fresh kill laid at your door step as worship or sacrifice(or worse yet, at your feet). The dog exception seems to be large sticks brought back from hunting excursions(and thems eating nasty tidbits of unknown origin out in the yard). 😎

A very big congratulations on your well deserved raise!! As we always have an abundance of eggs, we eat them frequently- an excellent source of nutrients. I like to make quiche- with any combination of onions, cheese, broccoli, bacon, or whatever else is on hand. This is made easier with pre- made Pillsbury pastry. Husband likes his over easy or boiled for a quick snack. Although I’m not a big sports person, I remember the days back when the Tigers and the Blue Jays were a big thing. – Jenn

Fresh backyard eggs are the best, that’s all we eat. You should try a different type every morning you are there.

So many eggs. Bake something. Or make egg salad. Hard boil them for a salad.

Fresh eggs make for bad hard boiled eggs. We let them sit a week prior to boiling any.

I envy you having all of those delightfully fresh eggs. Enjoy your time with your father and the many animal friends, and I wish you a very happy Easter!

I wish I still had chickens. I loved the eggs, often warm and always fresh. Having an ensuite bathroom is great. I did not know a microwave would lock. And, why? To keep kids out?

I don’t know why either.
Worse, if the door is completely closed it starts on its own.

I like an egg over easy (but medium, just slightly soft–much like my men).

that’s my favorite way too – eggs and men.

Hello George! Aren’t you a clever fellow! And handsome to boot! (Now where is Luna the Imposter Cat?)
Thanks goodness you arrived in time to rescue the poor chickens. Brother #2 might look like George Clooney but you got the responsibility genes.

Luna has been laying low and not coming out at all. Too bad as it’s nice to lie on the couch with a blanket and a Luna on top of it.

Egg salad! Deviled eggs! Mayonnaise for all! 🤣
Although the sun is out, the morning dog walk was at 26 degrees and heavy frost here on the West side. Brrr. I can see why this is a shock to you.

What manner of relish do you like with your eggs? I’ll dot hot sauce on occasion (on eggs too, as that’s what’s at subject here) and have knowed folks who ketchup everything including eggs, but it never occurred to me that it might be good to have eggs with relish. Would you recommend I start with a sweet relish or a mild salsa virgin, just mooshed tomato, onion, and a few species? I’m allus up for a culinary adventure, so I look ford to your reply for tomorrow; doubtful you’ll be despondent in time for breakfast this morning.
